This view of the ancient city of Granada in Spain is from the hilltop plaza of the Mirador de San Nicolás. The royal citadel of the Alhambra is bathed in morning light, while in the city below, mists drift away on the warm air. The snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountain range forms a dramatic backdrop. Artist Henry Stanier was British vice-consul in Granada. Although he occasionally sent his watercolors to London for exhibition, he seems to have found a ready market for his work among the foreign tourists passing through Granada.
